The sound pressure describes the fluctuations of air pressure caused by sound waves and is measured in Pascal (Pa). Since human hearing perceives loudness very differently, sound pressure is converted into sound pressure level (SPL) and given in Decibels (dB).
Leaf rustling is around 10 dB, a quiet office or silent conversations reach about 40 dB, while in large offices, values between 55 and 65 dB are often measured. Compared to that, a main traffic road has about 80 to 90 dB.
